So, you judge, we enjoyed our six weeks here this year.
This is definitely "conservative" florida.

People, majority seem, well, pretty old or you the young seem to be of the sort that favor jacked up full size pick up trucks with some obnoxious bumper stickers on them. Our favorite is Charlies Fish Market attached to the restaurant by the same name. We were much more satisfied that way and thought not the reason, also saved a ton of money. After trying the local restaurants, we opted to buy the fish or seafood and prepare it ourselves. There are restaurants, but none really great. With all of the wildlife on land and in water you'd think that there would be lots of great restaurants. Yes, technically there is one called Fort Island State Park which is small and sports trucked in sand that does the job for some. That's mainly because there are no real beaches here. There are motels and small hotels, but no high risers. For height of the tourist season, this place is not too crowded. So, the good, there is lots of wildlife here on the coast including exotic birds, manatee, dolphin, Eagles and ospreys, deer, fish, shellfish and even spitting armadillo. We just spent 6 weeks in Crystal River escaping the winter of Northern Vermont. I must admit I had no expectation of liking it as much as I did. Grateful for its varied beauty, relaxed drivers, friendly people, wildlife and proximity to Tampa Bay area. It was only 48 hours but it whet my appetite for a return trip soon and repeatedly. We had great food at Margarita’s at Paradise Road Marina and at Sara’s Diner. Kayaking into springs and seeing manatees below my kayak were delightful. Also want to feel safe when solo cycling the rail trail between rural towns and I think the Withlacoochee will meet that requirement. The really pretty, altitude 100 foot highlands and peanut farmland and state forest interest me since I’d rather not hike with gators. Devils Den made me and my 20-year-old happy and cool. I’ve lived in Florida for 8 months, having lived in many beauty-filled places, and simply wanted a change of scenery involving refreshing 72 degree water in late summer.
